ITINERARY 012 – AFRICA
Tanzania Discovery Safari & Kenya Classic - 11 Days / 10 Nights
On arrival, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by our customer service (early morning flight) and assisted to board a Shuttle for Arusha. On arrival at Arusha you will be met and transferred to Arusha restaurant for your lunch. Soon after lunch you will depart for Ngorongoro.
You will check-in at NGORONGORO WILDLIFE LODGE late afternoon. Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge is perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater at 7,500 feet above sea level (with a 2,000 feet sheer drop down to the crater floor), with spectacular and unsurpassed views over the crater’s great bowl. Its 75 rooms are centrally heated, and the lounge features a fireplace and panoramic windows that give on to a terrace serving as an observation deck for the crater below. Dinner and overnight at NGORONGORO WILDLIFE LODGE (LD).
After an early morning breakfast you will descend into the crater for a full day game viewing with lunch boxes en-route. Ngorongoro crater is referred by many people as “eighth wonder of the world”. The crater walls are 2000ft high and the floor spreads for 102sq miles, a truly awesome sight. It contains a river, several swamps, a soda lake-complete with flamingoes, a forest and open plains. A virtual “Noah’s Ark”, the crater is home to almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa which include, gazelle, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, rhino, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and numerous hippo. Eagles, cranes, storks and hundreds of other birds also inhabit this spectacular area. At the end of the day you will ascend the crater wall NGORONGORO WILDLIFE LODGE situated at the rim of the crater for dinner and overnight.
Soon after breakfast, proceed with your safari to Serengeti National Park via the famous “Olduvia Gorge” where Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey made their discovery of the early man. After visiting the small museum and attending a short lecture describing the archeological digs and geology of the gorge, continue with your safari to the vast Serengeti plain with game drive en-route which covers an area of over 14,763 sq kms. The park is inhabited by more than 3 million mammals, including lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant, buffalo, gazelles, antelope, giraffe, hyena, and all of the little animals e.g rock hyrax, bat eared foxes etc. You will have two extensive game drives today in this fabulous park and you gona need many films.
You will check in at LOBO WILDLIFE LODGE. The northern most lodge in the Serengeti, Lobo Wildlife Lodge is built into a massive kopje, merging completely into the surrounding landscape, considered to be one of the most beautiful lodges in Tanzania, its beauty can be described as breathtaking. It overlooks one of the most picturesque plains in the Serengeti. It features 76 rooms with private bathrooms and a restaurant situated amidst huge walls of granite. The swimming pool and bar, both dug into the rock, afford breathtaking views over the bushy plains and savanna dotted with herds of buffalo and elephant. Climb atop the kopje to the hotel’s sundowner deck, and watch the horizon ablaze with the setting African sun. and overnight LOBO WILDLIFE LODGE (BLD).
Full day is spent at the vast Serengeti plains with two extensive game drives today in this fabulous park and you gona need many films. All meals and overnight at LOBO WILDLIFE LODGE (BLD).
Soon after lunch you will depart to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara National Park is beautiful small park known for it’s lush vegetation and tropical forests of giant fig and mahogany trees, elephants, giraffe, buffalo, zebra and variety of entelope inhabit the park as well as a variety of monkeys and a large population of hippo’s. The park is also home to many species of birds and one of the few places you will be able to see the comical ground hornbill.
With game drive en-route you will check-in at LAKE MANYARA SERENA HOTEL It is situated some 80 miles from Arusha on the western escarpment of the Rift Valley, 4,500 feet above sea level overlooking the glassy Lake Manyara. Each of the 100 rooms has magnificent views of the Rift Valley, and the hotel’s facilities include a swimming pool, superb terrace and boutique offering local handicrafts. Lake Manyara Hotel was the first accommodation at Lake Manyara National Park thus had initial preference in picking the best location, which boasts superb panoramic views of the whole park and the lake.. Enjoy early morning games drive and later you will depart for Arusha, arriving in time for early lunch and proceed to Namanga border town and we proceed to Amboseli National Park. At an altitude of about 1200m – 1400m and beautifully situated beneath the foot of Africa’s highest mountain (5895m), the majestic snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro, Amboseli has Large herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, and a variety of other animals and birds all of which are attracted to this park due to its permanent supply of water that filters through the volcanic rock from Mt. Kilimanjaro’s melting snow. The park is also home to the Masai people, those tall, brave, and proud nomads who live in close harmony with the environment and the wildlife that surrounds them. Amboseli was the location around which such famous writers like Sir Ernest Hemingway and Robert Ruark tailored their stories of big game hunting in the wilds of Africa
With game drive enroute we will arrive AMBOSELI SOPA LODGE late afternoon for dinner. Situated at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, resides the Amboseli Sopa Lodge, set on 200 acres of precious land, not far from where Ernest Hemingway lived whilst writing his famous novel, “The Snows of Kilimanjaro.” Amboseli National Reserve (formerly Amboseli National Park) is home to the Maasai community, over 400 species of breeding birds and teams with rare and wonderful wildlife. The Amboseli Sopa Lodge makes it the perfect rendezvous for the adventurer wishing to conquer the snowcapped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro or for the seasoned traveler indulging in the exhilarating safari experience. Overnight at AMBOSELI SOPA LODGE (BLD).
A dawn game drive will be the perfect time for photographing the humbling and magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro the highest peak in Africa. We return to the lodge for breakfast and some R&R “rest and relaxation”, sunbathing, swimming or for those of you reading enthusiasts, you can read the day away in the well-stocked library with a relaxing view of Mt. Kilimanjaro, before heading out for an afternoon game drive. All meals and overnight at AMBOSELI SOPA LODGE (BLD).
Soon after an early morning breakfast, you will depart Amboseli to Lake Nakuru via Nairobi affectionately known as the “City Under The Sun.” Located in the Rift Valley 1750 meters above sea level, Lake Nakuru is known as an ornithological paradise by birdwatchers because the lake is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth which boasts anywhere between one and two million lesser and greater pink flamingos that feed on the abundant algae thriving in the lakes warm waters. It is one of the few parks that have been specifically established (Gazetted) for the protection of birds specifically flamingoes, more than 450 species of birds have been recorded here. The park has also been established for the protection of endangered species such as the rhino and is also home to Columbus monkeys, Leopards, Giraffes, and a variety of plain antelope.
Lunch will be served at LAKE NAKURU LODGE, which, is situated in the south ecological niche of the park. The lodge with its friendly and competent staff is an oasis of comfort that provides first class customer service and offers commanding views of lesser flamingoes dotted with the greater flamingoes. It blends in perfectly well with its natural surroundings and animals often patrol peacefully close to the lodge adding to its captivating magic. For some R&R (Rest and Relaxation), the spacious logged and inviting Mamma Nikki’s bar, the cool upstairs Rhino Paddock Cocktail bar overlooking the Lake and the enticing blue pool can be tremendously inviting. An afternoon game drive around the lakeshore will be the main feature for the afternoon, dinner & overnight at LAKE NAKURU LODGE (BLD).
Today our safari will take us to the jewel of Kenya’s parks, the world famous Masai Mara Game (Wildlife) Reserve. This is Kenya’s number one park and is always on every tourist’s “Must see list”. Full of life with various types of animals and birds, Masai Mara crown’s the climax of every safari in Kenya. Its rolling grasslands and acacia savannah have time and again been captured on film with the movie “Out Of Africa” being the most famous. Masai Mara is home to the “Big Five” (Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard and Rhino) and over 450 bird species. Apart from the big five, the Masai Mara is most famous for the spectacular annual migration of over a million wildebeest, zebra, gazelle etc from the Serengeti in northern Tanzania crossing the Mara River into Kenya in search of fresh feeding grounds, which takes place in late July or August. During this crossing, hundreds of animals are swept away by the first moving Mara River and others are killed by the ferocious African Crocodiles. This crossing gives true meaning to the phrase “Survival of the fittest”.
Your home for the following two nights will be at one of the excellent MARA SOPA LODGE. “Sopa” means welcome in the Masai language and true to its name, the lodge and its staff offer first class customer service and accommodations under a welcoming atmosphere. Set in the Oloolaimutia valley the lodge blends in perfectly well with its surrounding hillside landscape. The 77 rooms, 12 suites, and 1 Presidential Suite are all equipped with en-suite bathrooms, mini bars and elevated verandahs (patios) from which guests can sun bathe, relax and enjoy the view of the valley and it’s resident wildlife and birds. The lodge has direct-dial telephone services, satellite television and video services. P.S don’t forget your swimming costume for a midday or night swim under the star filled African sky. After lunch and some time for relaxation, or sunbathing and going for a dive in the pool, your driver/guide will take you for an afternoon game drive in search of the shy and elusive leopard, the solitary and ill-tempered Rhino, lions, buffalos, and many others. As the sun starts to edge its way dip into the African horizon it will be the perfect opportunity to capture the beautiful Mara landscape on film or video camera. We start the day off with an early morning game drive before dawn, followed by breakfast upon your return to the camp. After breakfast you can go swimming in the pool under the African sun or just sit back and relax for the rest of the day. In the afternoon we return to the bush in search of wildlife, such as Thomson’s and Grant’s Gazelle, elephants, lions, and the solitary and ill-tempered Rhino, among others (All meals and overnight at MARA SOPA LODGE (BLD).
After breakfast, we drive back to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch at your own arrangements. Later early in the evening, a complimentary dinner will be hosted by our company at the world famous CARNIVORE RESTAURANT considered “Africa’s greatest eating experience” (if you love barbecue it doesn’t get better than this), and home to the “Simba Saloon” one of the city’s most popular night clubs. Thereafter you will be transferred to the airport in time for your International departure flight.
